Horizon in the Eagle Ford and Permian

For over 20 years Horizon has provided outstanding service and technological innovation to the mid-continent oilfield service industry.  In 2009 we brought professional mud logging to the Marcellus Shale and rapidly became the logger of choice, building a complement of over 80 people in less than 18 months.

In 2010, Horizon expanded its professional version of mud logging and geosteering--what we are now calling field geology--to south Texas to support the rapidly-growing Eagle Ford play.  Headquartered just south of San Antonio, Horizon's South Texas group is the perfect blend of experienced loggers, degreed geologists, professional geosteerers and dedicated support staff to provide outsourced geological services at the well site.

In 2011, Horizon expanded again into the Permian Basin to support the rapid growth of unconventional drilling in this mature play.  As operators ramp up horizontal drilling, Horizon is there to provide the most professional service available.

Horizon is one of the largest firms in the country and we have rapidly developed a national reputation that is unequalled by our peers.  We have logged over 1,500 horizontal wells in unconventional plays and have built business processes that ensure our customers' information needs are met in these unique wells.  Over 160+ degreed geologists in our workforce allow Horizon to bring a level of professionalism and quality to mud logging that simply cannot be matched by the competition.

Horizon also brings an unparalleled level of technology to the Eagle Ford.  Does your mud logger allow you to access real-time drilling depth, ROP and gas information 24x7?  Can you see formation top information on line?  Can you get all of this information on your phone?  Is your gas chromatograph reliable and accurate enough to identify potential liquids?  If not, you should probably call Horizon to talk about how easy it can be to get the information you need, when you need it, every time.

Horizon's Advantages in Texas

State of the Art Gas Chromatograph

Horizon uses the iBall Bloodhound, which has a highly accurate chromatograph that is both temperature and pressure controlled. The chromotograph is specifically designed to produce superior results in liquids-rich areas where the ratio of heavier (C3 and C4) gases to lighter (C1 and C2) gases is higher.  It automatically senses a high ratio of heavy to light gases and internally switches in real-time to use a more sensitve calculation routine designed for high range values of C3 and C4.   The result is a much more accurate reading at high heavy-to-light ratios compared to other systems on the market while still maintaining equal or superior results at the lower ratios typical with dry gas--all without any manual changes by the user.

Highly Professional Workforce

Horizon's Field Geologist Development Program (FGDP) has made it one of the largest employers of degreed geologists in the country in 2010.  Since January 2010, Horizon has hired over 180 degreed geologists into the program, resulting in a highly professional workforce capable of providing superior geological analysis in the field and communicating that analysis as useful information back to the exploration geologist in the office.   This level of professionalism, coupled with Horizon's formal quality assurance program, ensures you get the information you need, when you need it, every time.

Regional Commitment and National Resources

Horizon's size and scale allow us to bring significant resources to bear in the areas where we operate.  We ramped up Texas operations to 15 trailers and 35 employees in the area in just a few months and our long-term commitment is to have 25 trailers and 60 employees within the next year.  Our national presence allows us to recruit highly qualified Loggers (both experienced loggers and degreed geologists), train them to the specific needs of the local plays, and quickly deploy them to meet the expanding rig counts in south and west Texas.  Only Horizon has the infrastructre and resources to rapidly expand in these areas while maintaining an unparalleled level of quality.
